Blue Devils Beat Woodland
The DHS Wrestling team, led by four juniors, squeaked out a 37-36 victory in its opening home dual meet against Woodland High on Wednesday, December 9th. The Devils earned most of their points at both ends of the weight spectrum, led by lightweights Philip Toy (112) and Spencer Abildgaard (119), and heavyweight Tim Yang. Toy set the pace with a controlled 10-2 win, scoring a takedown, back points, and an escape before his opponent was on the board. Abildgaard looked sharp as he pinned his opponent in the first round with a take down to arm bar pin. Yang earned the fastest victory of the night, pinning his opponent in the opening seconds with a reverse half nelson. Steven Hill (152) won the hardest fought victory, rallying from behind in the final seconds. After a scoreless first period, Hill fell victim to a reversal, down 0-2. But after an escape, Hill scored a take down at the buzzard to win the match 3-2! The Devils are led by Coach Ty Brown.
